Fred R. Conrad, Jr. of Monticello, IN, passed away Feb. 10, 2012. Born Dec. 11, 1923 in Bicknell, IN, he was the son of Fred & HazelConrad. They preceded him, as well as his sisters, Margaret and MaryCatherine. Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl (husband-Rev. Houston Blair,Jr.) Conrad of Pittsboro, NC and Coleen (Robert) Phillips of Mowequa, IL; ason, Greg (Mary) Conrad of Terre Haute, IN; a sister, Bette Dehls ofTucson, AZ; a brother, Larry Conrad of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 14great-grandchildren; his wife, Ginny (Smith) Conrad of Monticello, IN; andhis first wife, Mazie (Ivers) Bollman of Pittsboro, NC. Fred was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute, IN,and Indiana State University. He played tennis at ISU, and for many yearsafterwards, and formed a tennis program at the prison in Terre Haute. AnEnglish teacher, he taught many years in Effingham, IL, and retired fromteaching in Teutopolis, IL. In 1970, he was named teacher of the year inEffingham. There he was a co-founder of FACE, a local theater group. Fredwas also an accomplished pianist. During WWII, he served in the Army AirCorps. The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 13, from 12:00-1:00EDT at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St. Vincennes, IN. A funeralservice will follow at 1:00, with Rev. Houston Blair, Jr. officiating.Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FACE or the school ofyour choice.
