Horace McCabe, Mac, was born Dec 24, 1941. He gained his citizenship in heaven on April 16, 2023. He was lovingly surrounded by his family at home. He was known by his family as Sonny. His Mother gave him this nick name due to the constant smile on his face and his sunny disposition. His personality never changed. He is preceded in death by his wife, Iva Lou McCabe. They shared 50 wonderful years together. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Dola and Bonita Colbert, his daughter, Cara Depina and a great granddaughter, Adeline Porter. He is survived by his brothers, Lawrence McCabe (Carolyn) and Bruce Colbert (Carolyn); his children Rita O'Dell (Randy); Johnny E O'Dell, Tonya Harper (Van); Todd McCabe (Bobbie); his grandchildren; Stephanie Fletcher, Daphanie Peck, John D O'Dell, Dawn Shots, Buffy DePina,Brandi Porter, Kaley Decker (Kyle), Jake Harper, Brandon McCabe (Lacquen), Madison Wood (Kyle), Jade Pulsipher, Zach Pulsipher (Courtney). He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mac served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman from 1961-1965 and was stationed at Great Lakes. He and his brother Larry delayed their Navy enlistment by one year to enlist at the same time as their younger brother Bruce. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vincennes. He made sure to arrive early enough to enjoy a cup of chai tea before service. His other memberships included the Glendale Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was an active employee of The Big Peach. He really enjoyed his job, especially making his delicious homemade fudge. He retired as the owner of Mac's Cable Contracting. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and crafting. In the late 1970s he was the owner of Mac's Ceramics. More recently, he enjoyed using his cricket to create gifts for people. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Vincennes Thursday, April 20th. Visitation will be held from 12-1 with the service to begin at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the BTLS foundation. They provide monetary support to families of first responders killed in the line of duty.
