Joan HaggardJoan Halene Haggard, 85, Vincennes, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday evening, May 17, 2012.She was born August 19, 1926 in Vincennes, to John H. and Bertie Jane (Anderson) Miller.Joan joined the US Navy during WW II; she was stationed in Bronx, NY, attending the Hospital Corps School. When the war ended, she was honorably discharged and returned home. When the war ended she met Vernard L. Haggard, who had also returned home after the war, and they married on March 5, 1946. Her husband was still in the US Navy, so Joan joined him at the Naval Base in Bainbridge, Maryland. In 1950 they came back home to Vincennes, with their first two children. Joan loved the Lord; she loved the Church and her family. Going to Church and teaching Sunday School were her passions. For many years she ministered to nursing home residents and held Church at Crestview Nursing Home. Joan is preceded in death by her husband who died in 1983, a brother and a sister, her parents, and a son-in-law Tony Reeves. She is survived by her children, daughter Janice L. Reeves, and sons, John T. and wife Susie, Burley J. and his wife Judy, Jerry L. and his wife Janie, Jeff V. and wife Kim. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren: Tyler, Matt, Todd, Jerald, Adam, Jeffrey, Jathan, Jarred, and granddaughter Jade M. Haggard; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. The Reverend Mark Nielson will hold the funeral service on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodwin funeral home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a church or charity of their choice.
