Albert Cox

Albert Wayne "Bud" Cox, 80, of Monroe City, IN, passed away July 16, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Known as Wayne to friends and family, he was born on August 14, 1932 in Washington, Indiana, to Hobart and Ida (Cannon) Cox. On November 11, 1955, he married the former Carolyn Church, who survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Teresa (Justus) Althoff of Monroe City, and Denise (Michael) Henderson of Indianapolis; grandsons, Jason (Erin) Althoff of Monroe City, IN, Jacob Henderson of Bloomington, and Lucas Henderson of Indianapolis; great-grandsons, Jaden and Justin Althoff of Monroe City; and sisters, Ruth Helen Russell of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Norma Messmer of Huntingburg, IN.Wayne served proudly in the Air Force from 1950 - 1953. He enjoyed the travel to Korea, Japan, England, Iceland, and other places that he visited during his military service. He graduated from Lane Drafting College after his military discharge, and spent 15 years as a draftsman at Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company. During this time he worked on his father-in-law's farm on the weekends, and then became a full-time farmer for the remainder of his working years. He loved his family, friends, animals, wildlife of all kinds, St. Louis Cardinals' baseball, Indiana University and Indiana Pacers' basketball, Indianapolis Colts' football, auto racing, and playing golf with his friends. He enjoyed meeting people and learning about their lives, and as an excellent and humorous storyteller, he was able to entertain them in turn, yet was always surprised to hear how much his welcoming presence was appreciated. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, IN. Online condolences may be sent to the family through goodwinfamilyfh.com.
