Anita L. Clark

October 26, 1967 — September 20, 2023

Anita Lynn Clark, 55, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, following a battle with cancer. Born on October 26, 1967 to Arnold and Patricia Clark, Anita was a 1985 graduate of North Knox High School and 1988 graduate of Indiana Business College. She was a longtime bookkeeper for Knox County ARC, and later Kemper CPA Group. Although she lived most of her life in the Vincennes area, Anita’s chosen home was Tybee Island, GA.

Anita is survived by her mother, Patricia Clark; sister, Phyllis Crist; nieces, Kristin Bye, Kassie Hettich, Caroline Frey, and Kathleen Frey; nephew, Kris (Cody) Hettich, and his wife Julia; four great-nieces, and eight great-nephews. She is also survived by her former spouse, Matthew Black; mother-in-law, Jane Black; brothers in-law, Christopher Black, Paul Black Jr, and Paul’s partner, Debbie Goodman; sister in-law, Cynthia and her husband, Michael. She also leaves behind many lifelong friends and devoted cousins, recognizing that family are also the humans you love and choose. Anita is preceded in death by her father, Arnold Clark, and father in-law, Paul Black Sr.

Anita - ‘Neaty’ as she chose to be called by many of those close to her - was tirelessly devoted to her family and friends and will be forever remembered for her strength of spirit, generosity, and her insatiable appetite for travel and adventure. It is impossible to capture in words, let alone in this short format, the myriad ways Anita brightened the lives of those around her. She was the friend you could rely on in any situation and a sister who could wade with you through the heaviest of life’s circumstances. In the same breath, she could convince you to have a few drinks, enjoy some loud music, and let societal expectations take a backseat for an evening. Anita was a sports enthusiast, demonstrating an admirable fanaticism for her favorite teams: Notre Dame, the Chicago Cubs, and the Georgia Bulldogs. Her family, though, will long remember quieter game nights with Anita; she was especially fond of Euchre, and anyone who ever challenged her to a game of Monopoly may have found solace only in a tall drink.

It has been a tremendous honor for all who knew her to share life with a soul as unimaginably strong and capable as Anita’s. Never allowing the many difficult circumstances of life to knock her down or break her spirit, Neaty was wholly committed to life lived to its fullest. She was a constant connector, a reliable friend, an incredibly generous host, and the dearest Auntie; these words still do not describe her in full. The depth and breadth of how she will be missed cannot be captured, and those who knew her can speak to this.
