Arthur Bowman

Arthur Louis (Art) Bowman passed away at 2:15 A.M. Sunday December the 4th, 2011. He died in his sleep during Hospice Care at the Gentle Care Nursing Home.He was the son of Joseph Arthur Bowman of Vincennes and Veronica (Wichman) Bowman of Davies County Indiana. He is survived by Brothers; Arnold J. (Burr) Bowman, Robert (Bob) Bowman and James K. (Kenney) Bowman. He was preceded in death by youngest brother Charles (Charlie) Bowman and two brothers who died in infancy.Arthur was born December the 21st, 1927 in Vincennes. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol (Moon) Bowman of Vincennes, 6 children and their Families. His children are Steven Bowman and his wife Merry Kaye of Vincennes, Linda Nesbitt and her husband Steven of Vincennes, Glenda Watson and her husband William of Sullivan, Randall Bowman and his wife Evelyn of Gainesville Ga., Mary Cay Martin and her husband Paul of Vincennes and Christina Smith and her husband John of Bloomington, In. He is also survived by 15 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He worked in facilities maintenance at the Blackford Window Glass Co. in Vincennes for 22 years. In the early 1960's as Blackford was shutting its' doors, Art started his own Construction and Remodeling business where,. "every job was a work of Art". He worked until his retirement in 1992.Art was a lifelong member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Vincennes. He was active in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, President of the Cemetery Board, Past President of the Vincennes Area Builders Assoc. a lifelong member of the Y.M.C.A. and a member "in very good standing" of the Vincennes "Do Nothing Club".Active all his life, Art was known as a tireless and accomplished athlete and hunter. He and his wife Carol loved square dancing and round dancing an activity they pursued for over 40 years traveling widely to enjoy their dance friends. Art loved to play cards and was a frequent Bridge Player at the K of C's in Vincennes. Until June, in this year of our Lord 2011,.. Art could be seen around town riding his tricycle, a contraption truly worthy of a "Rube Goldberg Award".Art Bowman was a loving husband and father, a great role model for his children, quietly charitable in his community and firm in his beliefs. Art saw the world as black and white, right and wrong, you always knew where you stood with Art. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Tuesday December 6, 2011 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. David Fleck. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
