Betty Jean Althoff, 82, 805 Kimmel Rd., Vincennes, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the New Willow Manor. She was born November 9, 1928, in Lawrenceville, IL, the daughter of Wendell William and Hazel Violet (Shearer) Prout.Betty was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed china painting, loved to garden and raise African Violets. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making afghans which she would give to people and spending time with her grandchildren. She had worked at Hill's Department Store and as a bookkeeper at James Moran Tax Service. Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Thorne and her husband Rusty of Vincennes; sisters, Lois Spore of Evansville, Patricia Fossmeyer of Vincennes and Rosalie Vollmer of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, B.J. Thorne and his wife, Brandie, Tanner Thorne, Jeremy Thorne and Tayler Thorne all of Vincennes; great-grandchildren, Sam, Cooper, Max and Marlo Thorne; and several nieces and nephews.Preceding Betty in death were her parents and husband Charles Althoff who passed away September 7, 1997.Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 10 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Clemens officiating.
