Betty Jean Ellerman passed away in the presence of family on Sunday, February 17, 2019. She was born on February 19, 1927 to Jennie (Chattin) and Albert Burkhart in Plainville, IN. She graduated from Decker High School class of 1945 and Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing on June 4, 1948. She married Enos Ellerman Jr on June 5, 1948 at St. Peters Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1985.In addition to helping manage farm operations with her husband, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Ewing and Dr. von der Lieth, at Good Samaritan Hospital and was a co-founder of the first in the area Visiting Nurse business; Quad County Visiting Nurse Association in 1975. Upon her retirement, she spent her winter months in Cape Coral, Florida. During the last fifteen years of her life, she lived with her daughter Penny and son-in-law Scott in Sullivan, Indiana. She is a recipient of the Decker Outstanding Alumni Award.Betty was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and enjoyed meeting with fellow nurses and loved the outdoors, fishing, swimming, camping and IU basketball. She enjoyed life, lived it to the fullest and always had a smile on her face.Betty is survived by her children: sons, David, Dan (Karen) and Brian (Jan) Ellerman and daughter Penny (Scott) Beard; grandchildren, Cindy (Bo) Ray, Dannica (Bryan) Wehlage, Ryan (Anna) Ellerman, Melissa Beard, Jennie (Doug) McCrary, Kaelani Rae (David) Sandoval and Alex Ellerman and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Enos, brothers Charles and Albert Burkhart, sister Ruth Hopper, granddaughter, Nichole Beard and daughter-in-law Twyla Ellerman.Friends may visit with Betty's family from 9-11 am at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 6990 S. Decker Road, Vincennes, IN 47591 on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Betty's funeral service will begin at 11 am at the church with Pastor Nathan Rastl officiating.
