Betty Lou Griffith, age 86, passed away at 12:38pm on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital.She was born on November 27, 1927, in Vincennes, IN, the daughter of the late Lloyd "Hinie" and Hazel (Wade) Metz. Betty made her home in Vincennes and was a life-long resident. She attended Harrison grade school and graduated from Lincoln High School as a member of the Class of 1946. In 1948, Betty married Earl "Junior" Griffith in Linton, IN. They were married nearly 42 years, and he preceded her in death in 1990.Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker and was incredibly devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, a caring daughter and sister, and a patient wife. Betty also worked seven years as a telephone operator, and a few years at Ewing Printing. Betty enjoyed tending to her flowers, watching basketball, and visiting with friends. She had an infectious laugh and a big heart. She helped others by using one of her favorite pastimes, cooking and preparing meals. She was especially famous to family for her beef and noodles. Betty was also active in her community. Many will fondly remember her as a Harrison school room mother, Brownie leader, and Bible school helper. Betty was a member of the Community United Methodist Church and humbly supported many charities including Salvation Army, March of Dimes, and Paralyzed Veterans of America.Betty is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Griffith) and her husband, Jimmie D. Davis Jr., of Lake Alfred, FL, and Anita (Griffith) and her husband, Larry W. Summitt, of Bicknell,IN; three grandchildren, Leanne M. Davis, Juris Doctorate, of Pinellas Park, FL, Justin C. Davis, PharmD and his wife, Ashley, of Jonesborough, TN, and Stacey D. Summitt-Mann and her husband, Darren, of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law,Twyla Metz; aunt Patricia Metz Howerton; cousins, Barbara Jane Mayall, Dr. Jack Jenkins, Nancy Shroyer, and Paul Knowles; a great-grandchild expected this summer; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Robert L. Metz, and long-time friend, Warren Cox.Friends may visit with the family Thursday, February 27, 2014, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes, IN. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 28, 2014, at 11:00 am at Goodwin Funeral Home, with Rev. Cheryl Garbe and Ray Tromley presiding. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vincennes Community United Methodist Church or the Vincennes Salvation Army Chapter.
