Betty Messer

Betty Lou Messer, 90, passed away at 8:50 pm on September 26, 2018 at Oak Village Nursing Home in Oaktown, IN. Betty was born on October 5, 1927 in Vincennes to the late Ernest and Wilhelmina (Blubaum) Schultz. She married Harvey (Ted) Messer on August 17, 1946.Betty graduated from Bruceville High School with the class of 1945. She was employed at Brown Shoe Factory, Gimble Bond, Hills, Thompson Beauty Supply and St. John Lutheran School. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, president of the LWML and treasure of Bruceville Cemetery for several years.Betty is survived by daughter Barbara Phillips and her spouse Alden Phillips; daughter-in-law Deborah Messer; two grandsons Marlen Richard (J.R.) Messer and his husband Michael Chou, Adam and Lee Ann Phillips; three step grandchildren Angela and Jeff Meeks, Bobbie and Michael Zehr and Jon and Breanna Brown, one great grandchild, Alexandra (Ali) Phillips; ten step great-grandchildren, one step great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Marlen Richard Messer; three sisters, Wilma Wolfe, Virginia Davis, Delores Holtman; and one brother, Marlen (Bud) Schultz.There will be a private graveside service held for the family.
