Betty Meyer

Betty Kathleen Meyer was born in Sullivan County, January 28, 1925. She passed away Saturday morning, September 24 at BridgePointe health campus. She graduated from Oaktown High School, April 1943. She began working in the offices at the Tip Top Creamery (Meadow Gold Dairy). In the fall of 1943, she began attending Asbury College in Willmore, Kentucky as a Music Major. Because of finances, she returned to Vincennes after her first semester. She returned to Tip Top working there until November 1957. She married Walter Meyer on November 24, 1957. They lived on the farm in Palmyra Township in Knox County, raising grain and livestock. She was always helpful in the day-to-day activities of a farm wife. They moved to Vincennes in the summer of 1996. Walter passed away February 17, 2001. Her Dad was a Methodist minister. So, she was moving every few years to new communities such as Pleasantville, Graysville, North Vernon, Monroe City and Oaktown. She began playing the piano for services, weddings, and funerals at age 12. Music and playing the piano were a major part of her life. She called it her therapy. She was an active member at St. John's United Church of Christ. She volunteered as a Red Cross Gray lady, and RSVP-Generations. She was also an avid Pacers fan. She actively supported her two grandchildren in their activities, especially the South Knox Band. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Rev, and Mrs. Thomas Avery, two brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her son Willam Eric and his wife Cheryl, Grandchildren Will Meyer and Hannah Shields and her husband Nyal and her Great-Grandson Kanan Shields, and by several nieces and nephews. Memorials can be given to St. John's United Church of Christ, Phoebes Mission at St. John's, or the charity of your choice. Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty K. Meyer will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the United Church of Christ in Vincennes, Indiana. Officiating will be Rev's . Dennis Frische-Mouri and Linda Frische-Mouri. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 PM at St. John's United Church of Christ in Vincennes, Indiana, also on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at the church. The pallbearers will be Mike Chappell, Mike Manning, Nyal Shields, Tom Lemons, Larry Marchino, and Will Meyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Hannah Shields and Kanan Shields. Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home is honored and entrusted with the care of Betty K Meyer and family.
