Beverly Flory

Beverly Jean Flory, 81, died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes Indiana on August 3, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born on November 19, 1931 in Vincennes. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Josephine (Bowling) Blagrave. She married Robert G Flory on June 10, 1950.She was a devoted mother and homemaker. When her youngest child Jim left for college she dealt with empty nest syndrome by learning the art of toll painting. She was skilled in multiple forms of American and European folk art. She taught painting classes at the Tole Cottage shop introducing dozen of local students to folk art. During the years she started painting cypress knees as Santa figures with faces often carved by her husband Bob-after she had shown him just where the faces should go. Her folk art cypress knees Santas were sold on consignment and in shops and were treasured gifts at weddings and graduation.Beverly is survived by her husband Bob, her son Michael Flory of Bloomington, Jeanine (Flory) Bailey of Vincennes and James and Melanie Flory of Vincennes. She had four grandchildren, Matt and Catherine Bailey of Linton, Chrystal and Adam Mehringer of Evansville, Elizabeth and Eric Blann of Vincennes and Erica and Aaron Bushnell of Indianapolis. She has eight great grandchildren, Zachary, Brandan, Conner, Kaytee, Cash, Alabama, Reid and Astrid, and one brother Jim Blagrave of Vincennes.She was proceeded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and one sister. ( Kenny Blagrave, Bill Blagrave, Joyce (Blagrave)Simmons, Bob Blagrave, Steve Blagrave) a nephew Rich Simmons, and niece Susie (Simmons) Basbagill.Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Tuesday August 6 at Goodwin Funeral Home with a funeral service at 10:30 am on Wednesday August 7 at Goodwin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice or The American Cancer Society in her name.
