Bill Durham

Bill G. Durham, 70 of Sparta, IL passed away at 7:20 am CST on February 25, 2013 at Three Springs Lodge in Chester, IL. Bill was born on December 16, 1942 the son of George and Catherine "Katie" (Hayden) Durham. He married Carolyn Elder on March 30, 1963 and she survives.Bill was a member of the Sparta Christian Church, a seventeen year member of the Sparta Lions Club, Vincennes Masonic Lodge F&AM #1, Randolph County Shrine Club, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis and the Order of Demolay. He received the highest honor the Chevalier and Legion of Honor award while he was in Demolay. Bill founded the Vincennes Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and started the BMX track for kids in Vincennes. He also coached church league basketball, YMCA football, Babe Ruth baseball and Cub League baseball.Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Durham of Sparta, IL; son Burton Durham and his wife Durenda of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Brianna and Aidan Durham, brother, Bruce Durham of Lakeville, MN; brother-in-laws, Glenn Elder and his wife Margaret of St. Charles, MO; Eldon Elder of Mt. Vernon, IN; sister-in-law, Nellie Bruce and her husband Claude of St. Charles, MO; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Bill will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway Vincennes, IN with Steve Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Bill's family on Thursday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home with a Masonic Memorial service to take place at 7 pm.
