Billy Barmes

Former Knox county native Billy H. Barmes, age 91, passed away June 9th of 2020 in Ocala Florida. He was the son of Arthur and Mildred (White) Barmes. Billy graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois where he was a member of the NCAA gymnastics team. Bill married Margie Putnam in 1952 and together they farmed and raised cattle in Beal just south of Vincennes. He served on the South Knox School Board, Knox County Fair Board, and served as Bishop of the local Mormon Church for 7 years. Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Margie, a brother Bob and sister Betty, two children: Paula and Barry , two grandchildren: Nathan Barmes and Michelle Chappell and one great grandchild: Garin Morawe. He is survived by his present wife Patricia, four children: Joni Chappell, Bart Barmes, Andy Barmes and Connie Anderson, 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held.
