Billy Joe Long, 83, passed away at 9:58 am on December 20, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Bill was born on January 20, 1935 in Knox County the son of Fred, Sr. and Ruth (Weibel) Long. He married Phyllis Joanne (Wilson) Long on June 13, 1954 and she preceded him in death on August 30, 2012.Bill had been a mechanic for forty-seven years for Ward Ford and served in the United States Army Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a lifelong member of Bethany Christian Church where he had been an elder. Bill was an avid IU and St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing at the river for flathead catfish and visiting for the Lord when he was able.Survivors include his son, Tod Long and his wife Judy of Washington; daughter, Tracy Henry and her husband J.R. of Wheatland; grandchildren, Nicholas Long and his wife Heather, Eric Long and Makayla Spears, Janesa Meek and her husband Casey, Jarryd Henry, Jenifer Hartman; great grandchildren, Kensley Long, Kellan Hartman and Dax Hartman. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis Joanne Long, brother, Fred Long, Jr. and three sisters, Mary C. Hannah, Norma Wygal and Effie Conrad.Friends may visit with Bill's family from 4-8 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St., Washington, IN. Bill's funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 24, 2018 at the funeral home with visitation from 9:00 am until the hour of service time of 10:00 am. Bro.
