He believed God was serious when He laid out the rules and guidelines for sons, husbands, and fathers. He lived every day through faith seeking God's will in most everything he said and did. He wanted people to know Christ the way he did. He loved his Lord and his Lord loved him.He was a quiet, simple man whose word was as solid as he was. Although he was "Dad" to seven children he was the father figure to many others. He would tell you he wasn't perfect but he perfectly loved each of us. His love was not commonly expressed through hugs and kisses but through time spent with you and, well, mostly through harassment. If he loved you, he would pester you. If you walked within arms reach, he would slap you or try to put his finger in your mouth and hook you like a fish or act like he was going to poke you in the eyes.He knew when to be strong and he knew when to be gentle. He never said anything without thinking it through-there were no idle words or off the cuff comments. He believed wisdom was something to be shared but he expected you to listen the first time or he would let it fall on your deaf ears. He never yelled, he spoke softly and carried a big stick. He loved being outside. He loved building things for the people he loved and tinkering on projects in the garage or in his workshop. Here are a few individual memories:I remember helping my Dad build a kitchen table. He wanted one large enough to seat not only our family but also friends and others who came to gather and eat, listen, study or laugh. I knew I always had the love of this man who chose to be my Dad. ~Thomas LittleHe loved to tease, joke, play, scare, and chase us kids. He had a strange way of running but he was fast! His nickname in the Coast Guard was "Lightning". He was a good Dad. He had his flaws but even the most expensive diamond has flaws. ~Cynthia Little AdamsI've thought many times over the past few days, what would Dad say? Dad would say:1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.2) Lean not on your own understanding because you really don't understand.3) There are things you just aren't meant to understand so don't worry about it.4) It IS a sin to worry, you know.5) You know what you need to do so why aren't you doing it?~Cathy RoeselI remember when I was young, my doll's head kept falling off as I played with it. It was an old doll obviously, but I would always take it to him to fix. Never did he yell at me, he would stop what he was doing and just fix it. He was very patient. ~ Scheryl Little FloresI remember getting him to dance the Twist with me at Jennifer and Terry's wedding. I know most of you cannot even imagine such a sight, but there are witnesses here today who danced alongside him. ~Laurie RodelyThank you for joining us today to celebrate Bob.Online condolences may be sent to the family through gardnerbrockman.com.
