Byron McCarter, born in 1937 in Vincennes, Indiana, passed away recently. A 1955 graduate of Lincoln High School, Byron was a two-sport letterman. In 1956, he joined the Marine Corps where he was a member of the 2nd Recon. While serving he also graduated from Marine guard school at Quantico, Virginia. He met his wife Louisa P. Silver in the Netherlands and they were married in 1960.
In the fall of 1962, Byron left the Marine Corps and began working at General Motors in Indianapolis. He held various positions there, eventually retiring as a purchasing agent retiring in 1992. Byron also attended Kansas State University school of animal husbandry and worked locally as a ferrier his spare time.
Byron was a passionate supporter of high school sports, and an enthusiastic fan of Indiana University and the Indianapolis Colts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa P. McCarter, and his brother, Richard McCarter. He is survived by his longtime companion, Sue Utt; daughter, Dr. Stephanie McCarter of Point, Texas; his son, Chris McCarter, and daughter-in-law, Cindy McCarter, of White Bluff, Tennessee; his son, Shawn McCarter, and wife, Kimberly McCarter, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana; and his daughter, Monique “Mone” of the Netherlands; brother, William McCarter of Vincennes. Byron also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Byron McCarter lived a full and vibrant life, dedicated to his family, his country, and his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation for Byron will be Friday, March 28, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St. Vincennes, In 47591. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Byron.
