Carl W. Hartsburg, 96, of Vincennes, IN, and formerly of Wheatland, IN, passed away March 17, 2019, at the BridgePointe Health Campus.Carl was a brakeman for the B & O Railroad, working on trains primarily between Cincinnati, OH and St. Louis, MO. During WWII, he served in the US Army. His first action was in the Ardennes Forest, and he was part of the liberation of Germany. During his time in the Army, he earned two bronze stars and a silver star. While living in Wheatland, Carl enjoyed farming, and had a farm stand along highway 50.Surviving is his step-son, Robert J. Murray and his wife, Donna, of St. Louis, MO; his nieces, Ann Dix and her husband, Ron, of Vincennes, IN, Janice Perigo and her husband, Dean, of Evansville, IN, Cathy Halbert and her husband, Kerry, of Chase City, VA, and Beth Hartzburg; his nephew, Charles Hartzburg of Crawfordsville, IN; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Murray of St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren, Michelle Murray-Garozzo and her husband, Vince, Angela Haffer and her husband, Bud, and Christopher Murray and his wife, Lesa; six great-grandchildren; and several great-nieces and nephews.Born January 10, 1923, in Oaktown, IN, he was the son of William Carl and Claudia Ann (Dawson) Hartzburg. His parents; his wife, Mary (Moore) Hartsburg; a daughter, Carla Hartsburg; his sisters, Ruby Strate and Minnie Summers; his brother, Raymond Hartzburg; and a grandson preceded him.Friends may visit with Carl's family from 12:00 - 2:00 on Saturday, at Goodwin Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 on Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oaktown Cemetery.Donations may be made to the Ruby & Gib Strate Foundation or to the charity of the donor's choice.
