Carol J. Johnson, 78 of Washington, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital on Saturday, April 1, 2023. She was born on January 17, 1945, the third of four children in Washington to Kermit R. and Susie (White) Davis. Carol married her high school sweetheart on July 3, 1965. She was a devoted wife to Gary for 54 years. She was a life-long member of First Christian Church; in later years she spent many Sundays volunteering in the church nursery. She worked as a nurse's aide at Daviess Community Hospital until her children were born. She stayed at home to care for and raise her young children. She later worked for Sears in the catalog department along with doing housekeeping for several families in Washington. She delighted in a clean home, cooking and working in her yard. For many years she would clean at her daughter's house, make dinners and spend time with her three grandchildren. After Gary's passing, Carol continued cooking and having dinner with her son every evening which gave her comfort and purpose. In February, Carol took a trip with Shannon and her niece Kristen to Ft. Myers and enjoyed time at the beach and eating seafood. Surviving is her son, Brent Johnson of Washington; daughter Shannon Lee and her husband Jerry and their children, Josh (Indianapolis) Alex and Maggie of Washington; Carol's brother Jim (Susan) Davis of Washington and brother-in-law Robert McCracken of Montgomery; in-laws include Barbara Atwood of Washington, Jim Johnson of Columbus, Don (Sharon) Johnson, Judy (Larry) Sullivan, Jerry Johnson, and Cheryl Johnson all of Washington; nieces Sandy (Dave) Drewyor, Karen (Rick) Szymczak and Linda (Brian) Driscoll of Toledo, Ohio, Kristen McCracken of Indianapolis and Travis Davis of Denver, Colorado. Several Johnson family nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Carol's lifelong friends Ann Riker, Pat Brothers, Sue Gingerich, Jackie McDonald, Sandy Graves and Gloria Grannan. Carol will be missed by special friends and family pets - Charlie, Zoe and Daisy. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Gary (10/23/19) parents, brother, Robert Davis and sister Janet Sue McCracken. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at First Christian Church in Washington, with Byron Holtsclaw and Joe Coquillard officiating.
