Carol Newton

July 6, 1934 — January 10, 2022

Carol S. Newton, 87, passed away at 12:48 am on January 10, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Carol was born in Owensville, IN on July 6, 1934 and she was the daughter of Providence and Katie Margaret (Wilson) Wright. She married Dave Newton on July 12, 1951 and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1978. Carol was a member of Decker Chapel Church and had been since 1956. As a teenager she worked at the local movie theatre and an insurance office. She later worked on the family farm, sold Jafra Cosmetics and provided baby sitting service to her close friends and family. Carol also was a volunteer with Red Cross through Good Samaritan Hospital for thirty-five years and she was president of the organization for six years. She was also a judge on the election board. Some of Carol's favorite things to do were knitting, sewing, gardening, and singing with her friends. Survivors include her children, Dale H. Newton and his wife Shelly of Bruceville, Barbara J. Melvin and her husband Raymond of Dacula, GA, Dennis W. Newton and his wife Kyla of Vincennes; her grandchildren, Bryan Newton and Tammy, Jamie Newton and Beth, Travis Hayden and Heather, Janelle Pierce and Nathan, Tanya Hayden Bezy, Dustin Newton and Brooke, Laura Devers and Jason, Vanessa Byers and John, Kristin Chattin and Jarrod, Kendra Claycomb and Nick, Ryan Melvin and Kristen, Tara Hayden, and thirty-one great grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Providence and Katie Margaret Wright, son, Fredrick Allen Newton, daughter, Camille Hayden, and five siblings. Friends may visit with Carol's family from 11:00 am until the hour of service time of 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. Rev. Evelyn Owens will officiate and Carol will be laid to rest in Owensville Cemetery. Online memories may be shared with Carol's family and friends at www.goodwinsievers.com.
