Carolyn June (Church) Cox, 80, of Monroe City passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015.She was born in Monroe City to Cecil and Marie (Myers) Church on June 19, 1935. She grew up on the family farm where she developed her life-long love of nurturing animals and flowers before graduating from Monroe City High School in 1953 and then from DeVry Beauty School in Evansville. She married Albert Wayne Cox on November 11, 1955, and they began their married life in Evansville. Their two daughters Teresa Lynn and Denise Ann were born before moving back to the family farm in 1970, where Carolyn spent the remainder of her life caring for her family, the cattle on the family farm, many beloved dogs and cats, and gardens. Among many other interests were reading and attending doll shows as well as watching the wildlife around her home, including her annual hummingbird visitors. Her two daughters loved having the opportunity to return her caring toward the end of her life, and her daughter Teresa enjoyed spending every day with her. They are comforted by feeling fortunate to have had the best parents any two daughters could have had.Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, and her brother-in-law Ken Reel. Survivors include her daughter Teresa Althoff and her husband Justus of Monroe City; her daughter Denise Henderson and her husband Michael of Indianapolis; her sister Rita (Church) Reel of Wheatland; her cousin Donald Myers of Monroe City, who grew up with her; three grandsons, Jason Althoff of Monroe City, Jacob Henderson of San Francisco, CA, and Lucas Henderson of Indianapolis; and two great-grandsons Jaden and Justin Althoff.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday January 7, 2016 at Goodwin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the service on Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the Monroe City Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
