Carolyn Ellis

Carolyn would like you to know she will be continuing her work from above with the Lord. She was given a sign-on bonus of a reunion with her son, Tim, family, and friends she has not seen in quite some time.Carolyn C. Ellis, age 80, long time resident of Vincennes, IN, passed away on January 14, 2019, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, IN.She was born in New Albany, IN, on April 19, 1938 to Rev. Theron and Adella Castleman. Gifted with a rare intelligence and boundless love and compassion for ALL people, she graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She married Doyle L Ellis, DDS on June 7, 1959.The daughter of a Methodist Minister, the church was a major part of her life on a local level and beyond. She was a member of the North United Methodist Church that became a part of Community United Methodist Church in Vincennes. A member of the Mary Martha's Class and several other groups within the church. She participated in the leadership of Emmaus Walks and United Methodist Women. She served on the Southern Indiana Conference Health and Welfare Committee 1987-1995, was among the Pioneers of Parish Nursing for the United Methodist Church, and served as an officer for Women's Christian Services. She dedicated over 50 years to her missionary work in Haiti, Africa, and other locations around the world. Her support for these trips ranged from recruiting, financial support, education, to utilizing her nursing skills. Carolyn had worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as a nurse for many years.She enjoyed history, reading, always expanding her knowledge, music, flowers, gardening, dolls, arts, and crafts. She appreciated different cultures and had a great respect and connection to the Native American community/culture.Those left to cherish Carolyn's memories are her husband Doyle L. Ellis. Her children, daughter-in-law Grafilia Ellis of Carmel, IN, Tom Ellis and his wife Julie of San Diego, CA, Tonna Snider and her husband Duane of Carmel, IN, Tracey Ellis and his wife Tanya of Westfield, IN. Grandchildren, Mark Ellis and his wife Jessica of Indianapolis, Kristina Chisholm and her husband Slate of Nashville, TN, Jared and Laura Ellis of San Diego, CA, Ta, Zane, and Drake Snider of Carmel, IN, and Tyler Ellis of Westfield, IN. Great grandchildren, Jaxson Chisholm of Nashville, TN, and grandson Ellis of Indianapolis due in May 2019.A Celebration of Life will be held at Community United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, with Rev. Stacy Downing officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and family may visit with the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church on Friday, January 18, 2019.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haiti Mission Fund through the Community United Methodist Church.Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Carolyn Ellis.
