Carolyn "Cj" Jones, 74, of Vincennes passed away Tuesday in the evening after a long battle with renal cancer with her family at her bedside. She left this earth and took her well earned and rightful place in Heaven. She left her mark on this earth many ways and did not have to leave hand prints in some sidewalk for people to see. There was more work behind the scenes than seen by people not involved with her. She was a tireless volunteer and a "survivor" having come out the winner in two bouts with breast cancer, 1990 and 2010.Cj volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital cancer infusion center around her business and clients. Although, she herself had renal cancer she said there was nothing more rewarding than helping and talking to the patients. Cj attended "Walk to Emmaus" 14A and has been a strong supporter of the spiritually enlightening activity. She could frequently be seen serving meals, helping with clean up and setup for the next activities.Cj was a very active of the First Church of God serving on several committees through the years. Some but not all were finance, missions, marriage retreat, church elder, and never saying no when asked to help. She took the Dale Carnegie Class in 1978 and came back as a volunteer, "Graduate Assistant" in 1983. She volunteered her time assisting the instructor through eight of the multi week courses over a two-year period. Cj took the Dave Ramsey financial counselor training course to become a counselor and help others. She donated countless hours and helped many people struggling with budgets and finances. She assisted them in learning the principles: Give, Save, and Spend, but do it with a plan. She and her husband, Gene, coordinated many Financial Peace courses, and was instrumental starting the Christian Singles Connection for adult singles.Cj had a passion for mission work and that included many out of states trips: eight to Jamaica, five to Belize with the Church of God, two to Haiti, three to Guatemala, and one to the Dominican Republic. She and her husband Gene, with "Campers On Mission" twice traveled to H.E.A.R.T. missionary training camp at Lake Wales Florida to support their work by doing camp repair and maintenance. They also made multiple trips to Camp Challenge and Highland Lakes Baptist Youth Camp to assist with necessary building and maintenance. Carrying on the legacy of missions she has supported her granddaughter Kirby's trips to Haiti.Cj was seriously involved in the American Cancer Society where she served on the board for 15 years. She was on the committee that began the "Knox County Relay for Life" in 1996. She was a member of the Subway Team consisting of herself, her nephews' Daniel and Steven Lindsey, and their 12-year-old friends, the top fundraising team for four years. She had been the owner of several hair salons through her 55 years in the hair business and was an active member of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce for a period of time but as a sole proprietor of her business it was necessary to step back.Surviving are her husband, Eugene "Gene" Williams, whom she married on May 3, 2003; a son, Mark Jones and his wife, Penny of Bruceville; a step-son, Eugene Williams III and his companion, Angie Lucas Nelson of Henderson, Colorado; a sister, Lee Ann Malott and her husband, Herb of Vincennes; a nephew, Steven Lindsey and his wife, Abby; a great nephew, Hunter Lindsey; and her grandchildren, Kirby Jones, Kamryn Jones, Kayton Jones, Garrett Williams, and Connor Williams.
