Carroll C. Hamner, formerly of Vincennes, IN, passed away January 26, 2021, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, IN.Born July 23, 1935, in Evansville, IN, he was the son of William Ellis Hamner and Catherine (Caldwell) Hamner - Moreno. Following his graduation from Bosse High School in 1953, Carroll joined the US Army, where he served as an electronics specialist until 1957. On December 22, 1957, he married Sunya Spivey.From 1957 to 1972, Carroll worked as a branch manager for Capital Finance Corporation in Evansville, Kokomo, and Vincennes, IN. In 1972, he went to work at First Federal Savings and Loan, which is now German American Bank, and retired from there in 1997 as a Senior Vice - President. He continued to work part-time until October of 1999. In January of 2000, Carroll joined the Vincennes University Foundation for sixteen years.Carroll was passionate about serving the Lord. He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1962. After moving to Vincennes, IN, he joined St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as Congregation President. He was also a past president of the Thrivent Financial Knox County Chapter. After moving to New Palestine, IN to be closer to his family, Carroll joined Zion Lutheran Church.Carroll's other passion was serving his community. He was a Board Past Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, a County Campaign Chairman for Riley Hospital in 1989 and 1990, a Division Leader of YMCA Fund Drives in the 1970's and 1980's, treasurer for the Vincennes Area Home Builders, Past President and Campaign Chairman for the United Way and a board member, a member of the Community Development Advisory Panel for the Federal Home Loan Bank, Red Cross Board member and Past Board Chairman, board member and Past President of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, a facilitator for the Man to Man Prostate Survivor Group, Knox County Community Development Corporation board member, and a board member of the Knox County Cancer Society.A member of the Vincennes Civitan Club since 1961, he served as a board member and Past President. Carroll was an Adult Advisor from 1978 - 1982 for the Junior Civitan Club. A Lt. Governor of Civitan Midwest District, he was named a Civitan Fellow of the Midwest District in 2003. In 2015, he received their Lifetime Achievement Award. He was named Mr. Civitan in 1968, and in 1977 was recognized Outstanding Citizen of the Year, both for the Vincennes Civitan Club.Carroll was also involved in activities for Vincennes University. He was a honorary life member of the VU Alumni and campaign chairman for the VU Society. A recipient of the Walter A. Davis Memorial Citation, Carroll was a board member of the Vincennes University Foundation.Volunteering for the Indiana Special Olympics in Terre Haute was near and dear to his heart. He was a board member of the Indiana Association of Retarded Citizens, and a Past President and board member of KCARC.In recognition of his years of service to the community, Carroll received many awards through the years. Some of these include the 1989 ABWA Business Associate of the Year, the 1997 Outstanding Citizen Award for his work in the National Flag Celebration, Inc, being named a Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, serving as the 1998 Parade Co-Marshall with his grandson, Matt, for the Fourth of July Parade, the Community Service Award by the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award for the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, the 2010 Generations Golden Hoosier Age of Excellence Award, and the State of Indiana Golden Hoosier Award.Carroll and Sunya loved to take cruises in the Caribbean, and trips to Florida and Tennessee with their grandson, Matthew. He enjoyed working in the yard, and decorating outside, especially for Christmas. His other memberships included the Harmony Society and American Legion.Surviving is his daughter, Lisa Hartzburg and her husband, Kevin, of New Palestine, IN, and his grandson, Matthew Hartzburg, of Indianapolis, IN. Preceding Carroll was his wife of 59 years, Sunya (Spivey) Hamner, and his parents.Friends may visit with Carroll's family from 1:00 - 4:00 on Sunday, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, and at St. John Lutheran Church from 12:00 - 1:00 Monday. The funeral service will begin at 1:00, with Pastor Ron Maxwell and Pastor Jason Taylor officiating, at the church on Monday.
