Catherine Williams

Catherine Marie Williams, 93, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022. She was the widow of the Rev. Herschel Williams whom she married November 25, 1944. He passed away April 13, 2000. Catherine was born in Posey County, but grew up in Alford, Indiana (Pike County). She was born October 4, 1928, to the late Forrest and Laura (Hoehn) Dixon. She was a housewife, mother, grandmother, and a faithful worker in the United Methodist Churches, as she served with her husband. Her life was devoted to her family, her faith, and her many friends. They retired from the ministry June of 1987 and moved back to Knox County near Oaktown, Indiana. Catherine took an active part in the ministry with her husband, filling the pulpit as needed when he was unable to do so. She was also a lifetime member and very active in the Ladies U.M.W. and other activities of the churches they served. Her favorite bible verse was the 23rd Psalm, it was a blessing to her when she was down and needed lifted up. She enjoyed cooking for family get togethers, crocheting, sewing, quilting, baking, working in her flowers, and shopping with her daughter Vickie. Surviving are her children; Vickie (Rex) Chattin of Oaktown, Indiana and Linda (Bill) Dortoz of Niles, Michigan; Grandchildren, Michelle (Trent) Tonner of Montpelier, Indiana, Jarrod (Kristin) Chattin of Bruceville, Indiana, Chet (Angie) Williams of Petersburg, Indiana, Richard (Tammy) Williams of Winslow, Indiana, Gene (Lori) Williams of Monroe City, Indiana, Jennifer (Lucas) Kluemper of Ferdinand, Indiana, Karen (Rodney) Mox of Hickory Corners, Michigan, Kathy (Joel) Moore of Three Rivers, Michigan, and Matthew (Mary-Margaret) Small of Cameron, North Carolina; she was also blessed with 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Gary Herschel Williams, and brothers Forrest Dixon Jr. and Frank Dixon; grandsons; Rex "Jason" Chattin and Roger Williams. Visitation for Catherine will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Community United Methodist Church, 1548 Hart Street, Vincennes, Indiana. Services will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Darren Williams and Pastor Jarrod Chattin officiating.
