Charles Edward Tevebaugh

Charles E. Tevebaugh passed away at 1:05 pm on December 3, 2024, with his family by his side at Sycamore Care in Loogootee, IN. Charles was known as "Butch" in High School and "Chuck" in college and was born to Charles A. & Eunice M. Tevebaugh on January 17, 1944, in El Campo, Texas. Chuck was the oldest of three children.

A 1962 graduate of Monroe City High School, he went on to receive his A.S. in science from Vincennes University and his B.S. in biology at Oakland City University.

Chuck married his high school classmate & sweetheart Ann (Parker) Tevebaugh on March 14, 1965. They were voted Mr and Miss MCHS in high school. They had a wonderful marriage of almost 60 years. Chuck had a close bond with his two children Angela (Tevebaugh) Byrd and Chad Tevebaugh. Later on, he adored spending time with his two granddaughters playing games, taking walks, fishing and eating pizza.

Chuck taught general science & college bound biology for four years at North Knox High School while also selling life insurance part time in the basement of his home in Monroe City. He then began to sell all lines of insurance full time and quit teaching. Then he purchased Wampler Insurance and added an office in Vincennes. He later purchased Metz Insurance, McFarland Insurance and Wyant Insurance Agency. After 40 years in the insurance business, Chuck retired. Among the many awards Chuck received during his professional career he was most proud of the 1979 American States One Million Life Insurance Producer award and the Harry P. Cooper Club Award for sales achievement in 1986. Also, through his sales, he qualified for many trips with his most cherished being Hawaii, Bermuda, Acapulco, and three Caribbean cruises.

Chuck was a devout Christian and church was an important part of his life. At Monroe City First Church of God, he was an elder, served on the board of trustees, several committees, taught adult Sunday school class, sang in the mens' choir, and wrote columns in the monthly church newsletter. Later in his life, Chuck enjoyed attending Thursday Church with Chad on Thursday evenings. 

In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed hunting and went on deer and elk hunts in Colorado & New Mexico. He loved the outdoors and went on fishing and bear hunting trips in Canada. He also liked to go hunting for prairie dogs in Colorado and pheasants in South Dakota. Chuck also loved traditional country music and went to many concerts and the Grand Ole Opry several times. 

Chuck was also a distinguished member of our community as he was an organizer of the Monroe City Kiwanis Club in 1977 and then achieved the award of being the 1978 Kiwanian of the year. He served as President, Vice President, & Secretary in the organization and was proud to do so. He was a member of the Monroe City High School Alumni Association serving as President, Vice President, treasurer and several other committees. He enjoyed visiting with his classmates and friends. He was also a member of the Friends of NRA and received many committee awards.

Chuck was also an entrepreneur during and after his insurance career. He sold and rented Flashing Arrow Signs, he and his son Chad traveled to many cities going to baseball card shows, they also planted over 1,000 Christmas trees in 1982 and later harvested them for Chad's college fund. He also did gun shows alongside his son Chad and nephew Shane Sievers. 

Chuck distinguished himself in his profession and his community. He was a faithful brother, uncle, and devoted husband, a loving father and grandpa. He truly enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with his family. 

Chuck is survived by his wife Ann, his sisters Donna (Oswald) Proano, Vickie Tevebaugh, his children Angela (Mitch) Byrd, Chad Tevebaugh, and two granddaughters Sabrina & Caroline Byrd.

Visitation for Chuck will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Monroe City First Church of God from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Monroe City Church of God and the Blue Jeans Community Center. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Charles.
