Charles Michael Turner, 39, of Monroe City, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019 with his mother at his side.Born on November 30, 1979 in Bedford, Indiana to Charles and Connie (Lanning) Turner, Michael taught Spanish at South Knox High School for several years and tutored math students. He was "the Voice of the South Knox Spartans Boys and Girls basketball teams and various other sporting events. He was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, National Education Association, and President of the VFW Post 1157 Auxiliary of Vincennes for several years, and volunteered and participated in programs for Riley Hospital, Pets Healing Vets, and Susan G. Komen Walks. Michael graduated from South Knox in 1998 and also from Vincennes University and Indiana State University.Surviving are his parents of Monroe City, Charles and Connie (Lanning) Turner; his sister, Stacy Rothwell and her husband Larry of Virginia Beach, VA; his niece and nephew Carson and Grace Rothwell; uncles, Ray Foster and Tim Turner, both of Richmond, VA; his aunt, Lois Lanning of Vincennes; his cousins Brian Lanning of Vincennes, Jeffery Lanning of TX, Glenda Schaefer of Vincennes, and his great aunts, Nancy Battleson of Columbus, IN, Phyllis Lanning of Monroe City, and Doris Creek of Bloomington.Friends of Michael may visit with the family from 4-8 pm Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Goodwin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the South Knox Education Foundation or the Vincennes Pet Port. Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Michael Turner.
