Vincennes native and local attorney CHRISTOPHER AMBROSE RAMSEY departed this life on December 17, 2019 in Ocala, FL following an extended illness surrounded by friends and family.Chris was born on December 31, 1956 in Vincennes, the youngest child of Harvey Kenneth Ramsey and Alma Blanche (Newton) Ramsey. He attended school in Vincennes, IN and graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School in 1975. While at Lincoln High School he was a proud member of the Debate Team. He continued his education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in business followed by a J.D. Degree from the Indiana University School of Law in 1983.Following his admission into the Indiana Bar Association, Chris entered private practice with Ramsey and Black Law Office in Vincennes. Chris was the third generation Ramsey attorney to work in that law office. Harvey Ramsey began his practice of law working alongside his father, John Ambrose Ramsey.Mr. Ramsey was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, a member and Past President of the Knox County Bar Association, served on the Board of Directors of the Knox County Housing Authority and was a lifetime member of the Knox County Republican Party. He was a passionate fan of Indy Car Racing and Indiana University football and basketball. He enjoyed playing card and board games - particularly backgammon and cribbage.Chris was awarded a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb on July 27, 2018, recognizing his "Humanity in Living, his Loyalty in Friendship, his Wisdom in Council and his Inspiration in Leadership."Chris is survived by his former wife, Valerie (Stephens) Ramsey and their son, John (Ramsey) Shortt (and his wife Katherine); his brother, Patrick (and his wife Theresa) Ramsey; his sister, Paula Ramsey; his niece Heather Huddelson; and nephew, Nick Halter. He is also survived by his lifelong friends Bill Plahn and Kieth Telligman.Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 3, 2020 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the start of the service.
