Cleate Davis

Cleate E. Davis, 72, of 1331 North 16th Street, Vincennes, passed away at 2:14 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his residence.He was born January 12, 1940 in Ashville, North Carolina to Claude and Virginia (Sams) DavisCleate served in the Army for 17 years where he served as a drill sergeant and then served as a recruiter in Jasper and Vincennes. After serving as recruiter he worked for Westport Auto as a salesman until his retirement in 2012 where he loved to work. Camping at Sullivan Lake and golfing were some of Cleat's enjoyments.Surviving is his spouse, Carolyn Rucker Davis, whom he married October 4, 1974, his children, Jeff Davis , Andy Davis, both of Bartlett, TN, Melynda Pinckley of Vincennes, Melanie Guthrie and her husband Chris of Newburgh, Chris Royal and his wife Angie of Washington IN, Chad Royal of Vincennes, and Cassie Abel and her husband Scott of Vincennes; his brother, Jerry Davis of Texas, and a sister, Claudette Messer of North Carolina. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceding Cleate in death were his parents, and a son, Ricky Davis.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rod Carie officiating. Friends may visit from 4-8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
