Colleen Carter

Colleen D. (Lay) Carter, 90, of Vincennes, IN passed away on January 16, 2023. She was born in Vincennes, IN on February 25, 1932 to the late Francis and Esther (Burke) Lay. Colleen attended the #2 School in Vincennes. She worked as a caregiver for most of her life at Knox County Old Folks Home, and various nursing homes as well as sitting with the elderly. Colleen was very passionate about her love for animals, especially cats. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, baking, reading, canning, and spending time with her family. Colleen will be deeply missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford Carter; siblings James (Dorothy) Lay, Wilma (Leo) Hall, Vance (Esther) Lay, Doris (Chuck) Berry, Jack (Joyce) Lay, Jean (James) Black, Otto Lay, and Bill (Betty) Lay; daughter- in-law Carol Scott; son-in-law Bob Smith. Colleen is survived by her children Terry (Brenda) Scott, Vickie Smith, Francis (Teresa) Scott, Beth Ann Scott, Nancy Scott, Ralph (Amy) Scott; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Ellen Lay; and many nieces and nephews. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mrs. Carter. Visitation will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 524 Broadway St. from 10am-12pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 12pm with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery following. Memorial Donations can be made to the Knox County Humane Society in Mrs. Carter's honor.
