Dale Francis Hillenbrand, 84, of Vincennes, In., passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at BridgePointe Health Campus.
Dale was born October 15, 1940, to the late Syvester Francis and Estella Marie (Wargel) Hillenbrand in Evansville, In. He graduated from Mater Dei High School before attending the University of Evansville where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree. While attending college, Dale proudly served his country in the Marine Corps Reserves.
On July 2, 1966, Dale married the love of his life, Marty, and they spent the next 57 years happily together.
Dale owned and operated Safegaurd Business Systems in Terre Haute, In. for over 30 years. During that time, he was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club where he was recognized as “Optimist of the Year” two separate times. Part of that recognition was due to Dale’s sale and delivery of poinsettias during Christmas time as “Santa Claus”. Dale also volunteered yearly at a special needs summer camp, where he cared for some amazing children. At the time of retirement, he and Marty moved to Vincennes to be closer to family and where he volunteered as an assistant tennis coach at South Knox High School.
Dale was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was very physically active in retirement. You could frequently find him working out at the YMCA or playing pickleball. Dale will always be known for his infectious smile and his “Be Happy” attitude.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marty; two sons, Jeffrey Dale Hillenbrand from Noblesville, In. and Jonathan Charles (Holly) Hillenbrand from Vincennes; his two granddaughters, Ashlyn Hillenbrand (boyfriend Evan McGuire) and Alyssa Hillenbrand; and his sister, Sharon (Larry) Stroud of Evansville, In.
Visitation will be Monday, December 30, 2024, from 4pm-6:00pm ET at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home (524 Broadway St. Vincennes, In.) At the conclusion, Chaplain Trevor Murray will give a short prayer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Shriners’ Children since he spent a year and a half in Shriner’s Hospital St. Louis or a charity of your choice.
