Dale Wayne Shake, 81, passed away at 5:22 pm on July 5, 2022 at Hillside Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his family. Dale was born on January 12, 1941 in Washington and was the son of Charles Austin and Blanche E. (Riker) Shake. Dale was a 1959 graduate of Washington High School. After graduation Dale served his country in the United States Navy from 1959-1963. He was a member of the American Legion and the Glendale Masonic Lodge #461. Dale had also been a licensed private pilot since he was 16 years old. He loved traveling, reading, archaeology, collecting arrowheads and the Chicago Cubs. Dale always had a smile, a joke or two, and never knew a stranger. Most importantly though Dale loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years Vera Shake "meanest wife he ever had" of Washington, his children, Natalie Smith and her husband Greg, Dale A. Shake, Janelle Purdue and her husband Larry, Kirk Shake and his wife Melissa all of Washington; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Delmon Shake, sister, Maxine Chandler, and his grandson, Sheldon Matthew Smith. Dale's wishes were to be cremated and the family will have a graveside service at 1:00 pm on July 13, 2022, at Sugarland Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Clarence Miller officiating. The American Legion Post #121 will conduct military rites and the Glendale Masonic Lodge # 461 will conduct Masonic rites. The Shake family has requested no flowers be sent and memorial contributions can be made in Dale's name to the Alzheimer's Association or Hillside Manor Nursing Home.
