Dave Holmes

Dave M. Holmes, 79, of Vincennes, passed away at 9:50 pm, Monday, May 3, 2021 at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh from Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body dementia.He was born April 29, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Fred and Bonnie (Warth) Holmes.A 1960 graduate of Decker High School, Dave worked for Farrell Sawmill and Pepsico immediately after high school and then served his country in the Army in the Vietnam War. After returning home from Vietnam, he worked at Packaging Corporation and then for Amax Coal retiring in 1997. After retiring he enjoyed doing seasonal work at the George Rogers Clark Memorial. Dave was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and in his free time he loved to fish, boat, hunt, and wintering in Florida in which he enjoyed scuba diving and snorkeling.Surviving are his wife of 57 years Virginia (Obermeyer) Holmes, whom he married November 28, 1963; a brother, Rob Holmes and his wife Toni of Borden, Indiana; his nephew, Ethan Holmes and his wife Moritt of Virginia; and a niece Diane Stepro and her husband John of Borden, Indiana.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 8, 2021 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. Nathan Rastl officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes.
