David “Dave” Clark Dawson, 61, of Vincennes, IN, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Dave was born on December 27, 1962, to Glenville “Glen” and Jaunteel “Teel” Dawson in San Angelo, Texas while his father was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base.
After being born and raised in the military, Dave proudly served his country in the United States Air Force (1983-1989). On March 10, 1984, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Dee (Evans) Dawson. Together, they had two amazing sons: Brett and Justin.
A loving family man, Dave enjoyed coaching his sons throughout their childhood and middle school years in baseball and football. His passion for sports led him to also referee football, track and wrestling for over 20 years. He loved to attend his grandson Rowan's (affectionately called “Buddy Boy”) baseball games and soccer matches as a proud “Pops”. He also enjoyed watching Brett and Justin coach Lincoln High School track and field. For several years, he & Brett refereed varsity football together. Justin’s greatest fan when he performed in OTP shows was his dad. He shared a very special bond with Lara and she was like a daughter to him.
Dave was employed by Good Samaritan Hospital in the security department. He took pride in his job and enjoyed the friendship of his co-workers.
Dave’s family feels overwhelming sadness by his sudden passing. His presence, companionship, advice and words of encouragement will be greatly missed, but the twinkle in his eyes, his hearty laugh and big bear hugs will be missed most of all.
Survivors of Dave include his wife, Dee Dawson of Vincennes, IN; children, Brett Dawson (Lara) of Wheatland, IN; Justin Dawson of Vincennes, IN; grandson, Rowan Dawson; brother Steve Dawson (Margo) of Michigan; in-laws Larry and Linda Evans of Vincennes, IN; sister in-law, Kim Wiggins (Joe) of Greenwood, IN; his furry companion, Lily Dog. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews, Jared Dawson (Chris), Jamie (Annie), Jason (Rebekka), Jeffrey, Skyler, Greyson, Sarah, Nick and Renna Wiggins and Hunter Smoyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Teel Dawson; maternal and paternal grandparents; and niece Amber (Dawson) Smoyer.
A private family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
