David R. Godare, 69, of Vincennes, passed away Nov. 19, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born May 11, 1942 in Vincennes, the son of Wilbur "Bill" and Louise (Tapley) Godare. Dave graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. He retired from the Vincennes Police Department in 1989, and also retired from Vincennes University in 2007. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Post 73, 40 et 8, the Eagles Lodge, and the Vincennes Boat Club. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Godare and her companion, Greg "Woody" Wilson of Vincennes; a son, Todd (LeAnn) Godare of Bicknell, IN; three step-sons, Matthew (Jenni) Hensley, Rusty Hensley, and Mark Hensley of Vincennes; eight grandchildren, Natasha (Smith) (Jeremy) Coomes, Mallory Smith and her fiance, Daniel Haney, all of Vincennes, Holli & Emily Godare of Kennewick, WA, Makayla Godare, Megan Godare, Carly River Godare and Brody Godare, all of Bicknell, IN; seven step-grandchildren, Madison and Marydith Hensley of Bicknell, Dimitrios, Harold III and Allison Hensley of Vincennes, and Dylan and Alan Fox of Vincennes; and two great-grandchildren, Delaynee Coomes of Vincennes and Peyton Lundy of Kennewick , WA. Dave was preceded by his parents; wife Linda (Cooper) Godare; and his first wife, Sandy (Burris) Godare. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 10:30 AM at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, where a committal service will be conducted by the Vincennes Police Dept. Honor Guard. Donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or the Pet Port.
