Dean Vance Stuckey, 82, passed away at 7:19 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Daviess Community Hospital. Dean was born on August 19, 1937 in Washington to Russell Dean and Norma (Vance) Stuckey. He married Sandra Armes on September 1, 1957.Dean was the salutatorian of his class, graduating from Washington High School in 1955. He graduated from Butler University in 1959. He obtained a master's degree in divinity from Garrett Theological Seminary at Northwestern University in 1963. Dean was ordained as a Methodist Minister, retiring in 2001, after serving forty-one years. Dean served churches in Chicago, IL, Mace, Hammond, Portage, Gary, Wabash, Chesterton, Ft. Wayne, and West Lafayette, all of Indiana. Dean served as District Superintendent in the Ft. Wayne district from 1982-1985. Dean also was a member of the Daviess County Historical Society and was on the Board of Directors of DePauw University and Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN. Dean served on several boards throughout his life to support his communities.Survivors include his wife, Sandra Stuckey of Washington, twin sons, Gregory Dean Stuckey and his wife Janet of Washington, Gary Vance Stuckey and his wife Mary of Ft. Wayne, IN; daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Smyth and her husband Corbin of Duluth, MN; sister, Eleanor Lawyer of Washington; brother, David Stuckey and his wife Marsha of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Jarred Vance Stuckey and his wife Layne, Taylor Alece Stuckey, Samuel Vance Stuckey and his wife Emiley, Eric Jonathan Stuckey and his wife Sarah, William Culbertson Smyth, Thomas James Smyth; step-grandchildren, Kirstie and Karlie Barbier; great grandchildren, Katherine Harper Stuckey, Vance Gregory Stuckey and one on the way, Ezra Vance Stuckey. Dean was preceded in death by his parents.Friends may visit with Dean's family from 11:00 am until the hour of service time of 2:00 pm on Friday, June 5th, 2020 at Christ United Methodist Church, 104 N. Meridian, Washington, IN. Rev. Jerry Turner will officiate, and Dean will be laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daviess County Historical Society.
