Donald J. Grindstaff, 71, of Washington, IN, loving husband, father, uncle and cherished brother passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washington, IN on January 5, 1953, to Donald L. and Angela A. (Smith) Grindstaff and they preceded him in death.


Donnie attended St. John's and Loogootee schools. He was a loyal employee for the City of Loogootee for 33 years. He took pride in his work for the city and its appearance.

Donnie was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Montgomery, IN.


Grindy was an avid volleyball, cornhole and card player. He loved spending time with his friends at the Tiki Bar, going on Jeep rides, and carrying his wife's cooler to the beach on Florida vacations. He also enjoyed fishing with his son Christopher at his pond and helping him with odd jobs, and their Saturday morning breakfast meetings.


Donnie is survived by his loving wife Sharon A (Healy). They were fortunate to have 17 adventurous years of marriage. His son Christopher and wife Lisa. Grandchildren Brett, Gage, David, Ella and Jayda and 4 great grandchildren. Siblings Diane (Raymond Haag) of Sullivan, IN, Danny Grindstaff of Santa Claus, IN, Mike (Pam) Grindstaff of Sullivan, IN, and Denise Grindstaff Myers of Noblesville, IN.

Nieces Shannon (Tim) Wiseman, Ginger (Ryan) Tolbert, Jena (Cody) Pirtle, and Codie (Andrew) Kirk. Nephews Eric (Amy) Haag, Brian (Mary) Grindstaff, Darin Grindstaff,

Josh Grindstaff. 12 great nieces and nephews. In-laws, Mike (Lynn) Healy, Danny (Karen) Healy and Patricia (Bill) O'Brian. 10 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death also by 2 nephews.


Visitation will be Thursday, August 1st from 9:00 to 11:00 am at St Peters Church in Montgomery, IN service to follow. Private burial will be in St John's cemetery in Washington, IN.


Donnie was a kind and caring person who always had a smile and good word for everyone he met. He'd even share his last piece of divinity with you.
