Doris Blackburn

Doris Jean Blackburn, 84, passed away at 11:30 pm on May 4, 2022 at Golden Living Center in Petersburg, IN. Doris was born on November 9, 1937 in Pike County, IN and she was the daughter of James A. and Mildred L. (Mosby) Garland. She married Paul Blackburn on April 7, 1956 and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2004. Doris was a member of Franklin Heights Christian Church for many years and was very active in many facets of the church. Doris began her working career at Bridgeport Brass and then Blackburn Builders. She then started her career with First Federal Bank where she retired from there as an Assistant Vice President. After her retirement she worked part time at Vincennes Community School Corporation as an Aide. Doris also worked along side her husband, Paul Blackburn's Construction Business doing administrative work. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren, and drinking coffee with her sister-in-law, Rosalie Blackburn. Survivors include her children, daughter, Tammy Cox and her husband J.R. of Vincennes, Scott Blackburn of Ft. Branch, IN; her siblings, Margaret Townley of Petersburg, IN, Tim Garland and his wife Nancy of Zionsville, IN, Janet Vaughn and her husband Mike of Pikeville, IN; sister-in-laws, Christine Garland, Nelda Garland, Rosalie Blackburn, Sharon Blackburn; her grandchildren, Carisa Stegall and her husband Matt, Derek Cox, Cameron Blackburn, Brighton Blackburn, Lindsey Blackburn; and her great grandchildren, Jackson, Trae, and Nevan Stegall. Doris is preceded in death by her parents James A. and Mildred L. Garland, her husband Paul Blackburn, and her brothers, Jimmy, Paul Dean, Lowell, and Roger Garland. Friends may visit with Doris' family from 10:00 am until the hour of service time of noon on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. Pastor Matt Smith will officiate and Doris will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery next to her husband Paul. The Blackburn family has requested contributions be made to Franklin Heights Christian Church, 1509 Franklin Drive, Vincennes, IN 47591.
