Doris Smith

Doris L. Smith, 85, 2513 E. State Rd. 61, Vincennes, passed away at 4:55 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born May 23, 1925, in Vincennes, the daughter of Russell Wolfe and Lois (Simpson) Wolfe. She was raised by her mother, Lois, and step-father, Woodrow Robison.Doris was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Smith's Drugstore. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was an elder, moderator and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Fortnightly, and Psi Iota Xi. She enjoyed playing bridge.Survivors include her daughter, Polly Halter and her husband Don of Vincennes; son, Tim Smith and his wife Karla of Vincennes and grandchildren, Shelby and Alex Smith.Preceding Doris in death were her parents; step-father; husband, Robert W. Smith, whom she married May 23, 1953 and he passed away December 10, 1999; and a brother, Donald G. Wolfe.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 319 Broadway St., with Rev. Rick Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the service time on Tuesday.
