Edwin "Ed" L. Kirk, 86, of Monroe City, Indiana passed away at 7:35 am Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital.He was born February 20, 1934, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Charles and Ida (Blaise) Kirk.Ed worked as a carpenter and mason for many years. A Decker High School graduate of 1952, he received the Outstanding Alumni Award in 2000. Ed was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church that merged with Community United Methodist Church, and he taught Sunday School for over 40 years. He was also one of the founding members of the Knox County Habitat for Humanity and belonged to the Monroe City Service Club. Ed served in the Army, and he was known for his philanthropic art of sending cards. He enjoyed writing memoirs extensively about his life and faith.Surviving are his wife Barbara (Clinkenbeard) Kirk whom he married on April 1, 1956; his sons Christopher and his wife Nicole Kirk of Washington and Craig and his wife Debbie Kirk of Vincennes; his grandchildren Mark Kirk, Lauren, Carly, and Hallie Kirk; and Brian Austin; along with three great grandchildren Jaycesten, Adleight and Olivia Austin.Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers Marvin, Harold, Kenneth, and Charles Kirk, and sisters Irene, Merle Jean Buxton, and Alta Cook.Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Monday, July 6, 2020, at Community United Methodist Church with Ray Tromley and Rev. Darren Williams officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service. The family requests no flowers or gifts as memorial contributions may be directed to the South Knox Education Foundation or the Community United Methodist Church Prayer Garden.
