Elmer W. Winkler, 81, 9 S. 20th St., Vincennes, passed away at 5:13 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at his residence. Born September 10, 1930, in Vincennes, he was the son of Elmer D. and Anna (Tromley) Winkler.Elmer had been the manager at Charlie's Smorgasbord. He was a member of Franklin Heights Christian Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and loved to play golf at the Elks. Survivors include his wife, Faye (Myers) Winkler of Vincennes; daughter, Leah Jessee and her husband, Jeff, of Birdseye, IN; son Greg Winkler and his wife, Brenda, of Vincennes; four grandchildren, Kristin Jessee, Kayla Whitaker, Kara Potts and Michelle Sexton; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Whitaker, Macy Sexton and Connor Sexton; brother, Jim Winkler of Washington and sister, Aline Denny of Washington.Preceding Elmer in death were his parents; brothers and sisters, Charlie Winkler, Daniel Winkler, Dora Colbert, Bob Young, Roberta Hopper, Dorothy Burkhart, Evelyn Snow, Bud Young and two siblings in infancy.Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., with Pastor Wayne Unger officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or Franklin Heights Christian Church.
