Emogene Yochum

Emogene Yochum, of Decker Chapel, passed away peacefully at her residence in Indianapolis on June 1, 2023. She was born on May 4, 1930, in Decker Chapel, to the late Ray and Etta Mae (Catt) Smith. Emogene was a graduate of Decker Chapel High School in 1947. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University in Home Economics. Upon graduation, Emogene was chosen the Outstanding Home Economics Student of her class. She taught Home Economics and Science for almost 20 years at St Francisville and South Knox School Corporations. Emogene married James Yochum on July 20, 1957. They were happily together for over 65 years. They were blessed with three daughters, Clara Yochum, Sherry (Mike) Mitsch and Kelly Yochum; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (one on the way). She gave her time and love generously to family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mrs. Yochum. Visitation will be held June 5, 2023, at 524 Broadway St. from 10-11am. A Funeral service will be held June 5, 2023, at 11am with burial at Memorial Park following. Emogene was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Memorial donations can be made in her honor to the church c/o Worship Anew in lieu of flowers.
