Esther Kerns

Esther Mae Kerns, 94, of 3657 E. Tower Road, passed away at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at her residence. Esther was born in Knox County on April 14, 1918 the daughter of William and Ethel (Denny) Atkinson. She married James E. Kerns on February 23, 1938 and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1953. Esther was a member of Indiana Presbyterian Church. She was employed for many years at the Vincennes Community School Corporation where she was the supervisor of the lunch room at Lincoln High School and Clark Junior High School. She later worked for the Vincennes City Fire Department as the Secretary to the Fire Chief. She also volunteered as a Gray Lady at Good Samaritan Hospital. Survivors include her son, James C. Kerns of Vincennes; daughters, Carol Sue Dreiman of Vincennes; Karen Kay Riegle of Vincennes; grandchildren, James C. Kerns, Jr., Kimberly K. Downen, Cheryl Dreiman, Dr. Shawn Riegle, Dr. Shannon Riegle and several great grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services for Esther will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with Rev. Cheryl Thorne officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Esther's family from Noon until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.
