Eugene Cosby

Eugene Edward "Gene" Cosby, 91, passed away at 12:23 am on July 31, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. Gene was born on October 21, 1927 in Washington the son of Edward and Ruby (McCafferty) Cosby. He married Beverly Smith in 1945 and she preceded him in death in 1989. He then married Betty Wood on October 19, 1996.Gene was a life-time member of First Baptist Church where he served the church in many capacities. He also served his country in the U.S. Army Air-Corp. Gene worked as a Western-Southern Life Insurance agent for many years and most recently was a jailer for the Daviess County Sheriff's Department. He was a gunsmith, a member of the Washington Conservation Club and was past Worshipful Master of the Washington Masonic Lodge. Gene also loved to hunt and fish and was an avid Hatchet basketball fan.Survivors include his wife, Betty Cosby of Washington; daughter, Karen Boyd and her husband Steve of Washington; step-daughters, Kathy Templeton and her husband Doug of Florida, Susie Brundage and her husband Kevin of Washington; brother Don Cosby and his wife Patty of Washington; grandchildren, Mike Boyd and his fiance Maegan, Greg Boyd and his wife Jennifer; step-grandchildren, Lauren Eftink and Randy Hill; great grandchildren Ashley Iglehart, Andrew, Austin, Alex and Aiden Boyd; great-great grandchildren Elle, Ava and Bentley Iglehart. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Beverly Cosby; son Rick Cosby; sisters, Mickey Cosner and Helen Ellis and brother Paul Cosby.Friends may visit with Gene's family on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 5-8 pm at First Baptist Church, 100 E. Walnut St., Washington, IN. and from 9-10 am on Monday before the start of the service. There will be a Masonic service beging at 7:00 pm at the church Sunday evening. Gene's funeral service will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the church with Pastor Tim Baxter officiating. Gene will be laid to rest in Sugarland Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 100 E. Walnut St., Washington, IN. On line memories may be shared with Gene's family and friends at www.goodwinsieversfh.com.
