Fern Griffin

Fern Loraine (Williams) Griffin, 90, of Vincennes, Indiana passed away on December 18, 2013 at Fairview Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin, Illinois. Fern was born on June 30, 1923 in Oakdale, Illinois, a daughter of Hiram and Pearly Williams. On November 8, 1947, she married Albert Eugene Griffin and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2006. Fern had previously worked at Mac's Barbeque in Evansville, Indiana for 31 years before retiring in 1985. Early on in her career, she was chosen to be a billboard "hand model" while working at the restaurant - to this day she was proud of her young looking hands. Fern's true passion was reading about holistic healing, and teaching others about the benefits of taking vitamins. She was known to share copies of her "Hand Reflexology Chart" with others and would demonstrate how a relaxing hand massage using reflexology techniques could benefit the body. Early on in her life, she enjoyed growing flowers; raised Pomeranian puppies as a hobby, and went on camping trips with her husband - Gene. But most of all, Fern was known for telling great stories of her childhood memories. Fern did not know a stranger, and was a very generous person to all. She was preceded in death by her parents - Hiram and Pearly Williams; sisters - Julia Clark, Zola Westfall, Minnie Moore, Helen Chanley, and Verna Williams; brothers - Ival Williams, Charley Williams, Bill Williams, Floyd Williams, and her husband - Albert Eugene Griffin. Fern is survived by her sister - Wanza May of DuQuoin, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway Street, Vincennes, Indiana, with Ron Fellows officiating.
