Fern Miles

Fern Frances Miles, 91, passed away at 12:31 pm on February 1, 2019 at The Villages of Oakridge. Fern was born on January 31, 1928 in Mt. Carmel, Il the daughter of Darvin Frank and Goldie Fay (Peach) Howder. She married Edwin C. Miles on February 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1991.Fern was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, mushroom hunting and Fishing. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school and bible school.Survivors include her children, Joy Hedge and her husband Michael R. of Monroe City, Rick Miles of Monroe City; her grandchildren, Amy Griffith and Doug Whiting who Fern raised after their mother's death, Katrina Gardner, Trisha Organ, Lesli Haveman, Christopher Miles; thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Carson of Vincennes, Esther Stewart of Vincennes, and Shirley Gray of Vincennes. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin C. Miles, daughter, Pamela Whiting, sisters Vivian "Dee" Parker, Dixie Howder, Katie Holloway, Louella Brown and brother Bud Howder.Friends may visit with Ferns family from 4-8 pm on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. Ferns funeral service will begin at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 with Pastor Sandy Ivers officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
