Francis Ostendorf

February 23, 1928 — September 29, 2017

Francis Edward Ostendorf was a life-long resident of Vincennes and passed away peacefully on September 29, 2017, just a few months shy of 90. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ozzie, as he was known to many of his friends and grandchildren, was renowned for his eye for color in his many years working for Porter Paint, his penchant for extended political discussions, his affinity of siestas on the front porch (and other spots around the house), his disdain for Fox & Friends, the comradery of mornings with pals of the Do Nothing Club, and as the originator of the Ozzie Waive (witnessed by everyone in Vincennes at one time or another). He is survived by Blanche (Clark), his wife of 63 years, his daughter Susan Leonard (Rick) of Vincennes, daughter Denise Ostendorf of Zionsville, daughter-in-law Debby Ostendorf of Vincennes, son Matt Ostendorf (Marilyn) of Newburgh, daughter Debbie Goodner (Jack) of Lebanon, TN, and son Greg Ostendorf (Janet) of Zionsville; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother Bernard Ostendorf of Vincennes, sister Virginia Favignano of St. Louis, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased recently by his son, Doug Ostendorf of Vincennes, and several years ago by his parents Edward and Louise Ostendorf of Vincennes, brother Joseph Ostendorf of Vincennes, and sister Mary Talman of Mansfield, OH. Ozzie was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Francis was a genuinely good person and will be very much missed by his family and many friends. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, at 12:00 noon, at St. John Catholic Church. Friends may visit with Francis's family from 10:00 - 11:45 on Monday at Goodwin Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.
