Gary Franklin Coots

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Coots, a loving husband, father, and friend. Gary was born on September 10, 1947, in Cambellsburg, IN, and peacefully passed away on April 11, 2024, in Vincennes, IN, surrounded by his beloved family.

Gary was a proud Purdue graduate and had a successful career in the banking industry. He enjoyed fishing and golfing as those activities that truly brought him joy and solace. In previous years, he dedicated his time to coaching children's sports leagues, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many young athletes who fondly remember his guidance and mentorship.

Family was at the center of Gary's world, and his love for them was immeasurable. His kind and compassionate nature touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of generosity, wisdom, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Surviving Gary is his wife of 51 years, JoElla (Wohler) Coots; sons, Andrew Coots (Cheryl Mickey); and Tim Coots; grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Nicolette Coots Roland, Claudia Coots, and Julian Coots; brothers and sisters, Rose Coots, Myra Weathers, Mike Coots, Carolyn Ferren, Faye Coots, and Joel Coots (Margie). Preceding Gary in death are his parents, Leon and Ruby Coots; grandson Ozzy Coots; and infant sister Cinda Mae.

Gary's life will be celebrated with a visitation starting at 12:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 2625 Wabash Avenue, Vincennes, Indiana, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. The funeral service be begin at 3:00 pm following Gary's visitation. Pastor Phillip Walthall and Pastor Mike Flynn will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Playground Fund. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Gary.
