Gary Potter

December 12, 1960 — September 3, 2021

Gary L. Potter, 60, passed away at 11:40 am on September 3, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on December 12, 1960 in Vincennes and was the son of Roy and Violet Mae (Anthis) Snyder. He married Sandra Adams on March 16, 1985. Gary attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Francis Xavier Parish and was currently working at Alliance Tractor, formerly Vincennes Tractor. He had also been employed by Vincennes Steel, Johnson Farms, and United Producers. Gary coached youth baseball and played in the Men's Softball League with his L and W family. A proud moment in Gary's life was watching his son Derek play in the Indiana High School baseball State Championship game in Indianapolis and watching and coaching his daughter Haley's basketball team. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandson Theo his pride and joy. Gary was also an avid sports fan with his favorite being IU basketball and the Dallas Cowboys in their good years. Most importantly though, Gary had a great love for his family, his many friends, acquaintances, and his co-workers. Survivors include his wife Sandra Potter of Vincennes; son, Derek Potter of Vincennes; daughter, Haley Ellerman and her husband Tyler of Vincennes; grandson, Theo Caine Ellerman; sister, Tonya Ruben and her husband Dennis of Elkhart, IN; as well as many sister-in-law's, brother-in-law's, nieces, nephews, and cousins who he loved dearly. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Roy Snyder. Friends may visit with Gary's family from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Church, 2004 N. 2nd., Vincennes, IN 47591. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday at Sacred Heart with Rev. Tony Ernst celebrating and Gary will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
