George Compton

George Clayton Compton, 93, of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away October 27, 2019, at the BridgePointe Health Campus.George had worked at the Brown Shoe Factory, and then Vincennes Steel. He was a member of the Rising Sun Christian Church in Lawrence County, IL. George was especially proud of his service in the US Army during WWII.Surviving are his children, Judy Andrews and her husband, Jim, of Bloomington, IL, Carol Waldrop and her husband, Randy, of Dalton, GA, Kathy Lappin and her husband, Greg, of Owensboro, KY, J.R. Compton of Evansville, IN, and Gary Compton and his wife, Karen, of Lawrenceville, IL; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.Born August 9, 1926, in Vincennes, IN, he was the son of Payton Jasper and Bertha (Coan) Compton. His parents; his wife, Harriett Wanda (Richman) Compton; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Robert "Bob" Musgrove, formerly of Lawrenceville, IL; his siblings; and a grandchild, Todd Andrews, preceded him.Friends may visit with George's family from 10:00 - 12:00 on Thursday EDT, at the Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home.
